UIL academics raises funds through t-shirt sponsorships
by Keller Lott
UIL academics is offering two sponsorship levels, maroon and white, for their annual UIL academic t-shirt fundraiser. Maroon sponsorships provide a logo on the back of the shirt for $500, and the white shirts provide a name/business on the back for $250.
“SnoJoe’s has gotten a sponsorship on the back, so I’m really excited to see all these really intelligent kids promoting my business on the back of their shirt,” White Oak teacher and business owner Nikki Faircloth said. “I bought the sponsorship to support the program, enrich the whole UIL program and ultimately beat Sabine.”
UIL shirts will be worn for practice meets and other events, providing sponsors like Faircloth year round promotion. Although annual t-shirt sponsorships haven’t been provided this way at White Oak, principal Jack Parker has experience with this fundraiser from his previous district.
“My [previous] academic coordinator and I came up with this idea, and we’ve done it for four years,” Parker said. “The first year we did it, we raised some pretty good money and each year got a better return. Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year.”
Donations from sponsors will allow competitors to order necessary materials, pay entry fees for practice meets and tournaments and cover travel and meals.
“We have the students at White Oak High School to win the district, the region and the state,” Parker said. “UIL academics help kids on their ACTs, in school, in life when you graduate from high school, prepares you for college, helps them communicate and make them more well-rounded people.”
