Ladynecks sweep Timpson

by Trinity Noll

After a long weekend of tournament play at Central Heights, the Ladynecks faced the Timpson Lady Bears for their first home game of the season. The team swept the Bears with the final scores of 25-15, 25-7 and 25-10. The girls will load the bus on Thursday afternoon, where the Ladynecks will fight for a championship title at the Lufkin Tournament.

“This game really helped us work on connections and doing the little things right,” senior setter Emma Hill said. “Sometimes it is hard to stay focused when a game is not that intense but we kept that focus. We did very well in serve receive tonight and our serves were very aggressive, especially Anna Iske.”

According to Coach High, it is important to work on the little things and practice consistency during slow-paced games, it takes you back to the basics where you can strengthen the mundane and small skills.

“One thing we could have been better at is communication,” junior outside hitter Addison Clinckscales said. “Sometimes, especially in slow games, we get quiet and let balls drop that cost us a point. This game helped us prepare for our upcoming Lufkin tournament because oftentimes in pool play, you play teams below your level. This game taught us to play at our speed no matter what the other side of the net is doing.”

The team has another long weekend ahead of them in preparation for district play. The team will play at 4 p.m. on Thursday and the championship game will be played on Saturday, which will conclude the tournament.
